Apparently, you can't fix stupid in Camp Mustang...

I see nothing wrong here. A little hype over both cars probably brings more interest in the cars.

I'm a huge GT50 fan, but I don't know which one will be better. The Camaro has always put the power to the ground better the the Mustang. The GT500 tires are narrower than the Camaro's also. Ford has done a great job with tuning the solid axle, but it can only go so far when handling a high speeds are concerned. It'll be great to see someone put these cars against each other on the rtack later this year. Until then, it's all speculation.

Have to agree. Power doesn't mean shit unless you can put it to the pavement.

What I want to know, is why Mustang owners HATE Camaros so much, but most of the Camaro owners I have known like Mustangs as well.

I'll tell you. www.camaro5.com. Spend 5 minutes over there and your head will hurt. Mention the words "Mustang" or "GT500" and you're on a fast track for a ban. I find it to be quite the opposite on MOST Mustang forums I frequent. AFM, on the other hand, is pretty rough.

I only look at pics over there. I usually browse the tech. Also a fan of SVTperformance. Both are good forums.

Automobile Magazine just ran 12.6@116 and 0-60 in 4.3 in a ZL1. Three tests, 12.6@116, 12.1@117, 12.3@119. I'm sure the team behind 2013 GT500 is quaking in their boots.

The fact they went from 12.6 to 12.1 tells me the guy cannot drive or it was a very terrible track.

On paper the Mustang should win in a straight line, stock vs stock on STOCK tires its just going to be a drivers battle on who can put it to the ground. SS+Whipple+Cash Left over > ZL1 & GT500

Sorry, I should clarify. Those are the best three times from Automobile, Motor Trend and Car and Driver, not a single test. But really with launch control, how much variation should there be? I'm sure part of the differential is who uses rollout vs who doesn't.

I agree with you there, sorry I thought they were all from the same day. In good weather on a good track I could see the car going mid-high 11's. It's always the same though, look at the C6 Z06 or ZR1, they don't put down great times without a drag radial. The camaro is heavier with less power, of course its going to be slower in a straight line. GT500 will tear that ass up on the highway.

Without launch control, C&D went 12.4@117, MT went [email protected] and I couldn't find anything from Automobile, but Edmunds Inside Line ran 12.4@116 in the 2011 GT500. I think that car would be a better race for a ZL1 and Mr. Oopsenheiser than the 2013 will be.

The entire debate is stupid. If in 2014 chevrolet makes 700hp and does 210mph, ford guys will bitch if they compare it to a 2013 gt500. Gm had the faster car this year, ford will have it next year.no one knows anything beyond that.

It's not really a this year vs next year debate. ZL1 will be on the street Q1 2012, 2013 GT500 will be out Q2 2012. Only a couple months will end up separating them.

Yeah, I've met a few magazine editors, some of them amaze me. I was the "test driver" on the TBSS for a car magazine. Editor couldn't figure out how to flash the converter for best 60'... and a 2WD SS isn't exactly the hardest thing to drive. I averaged 0.3s 0-60 faster than the editor. Then, as if the 0-60 test wasn't an eye opener, I averaged 70-0 4' shorter than the editor.. all I had to do was stomp on the brake and let the ABS do the trick.

The Z06 test was even more comical, but the engineer that did that one has a 0.15s shift time, he's an animal.
