I got a old Technics amp from the 70's that took a shit on me. The amp will power on but the safe light won't kick back on so i am getting no sound.
Was wondering if anyone here works on stuff like that or know someone that does?

Thanks.

Disconnect speaker cables from the amplifier. Could be a shorted speaker voice coil. That usually a short indicator.

thanks for the help and info....

Sean...i hooked up another receiver with the same set of speakers and they work with no problems. But...maybee that old amp is more pron to stuff like that? The speakers i have are a kick ass pair of JBL Venue bookshelfs.

What's the resistance of those speakers? If the old amplifier is meant to run a high impedance speaker but you're trying to use it with low impedance speakers the amp might not be too happy.

An amp that old may need a recap job. Generally, the electrolytics will last for 25 to 30 years under normal usage conditions. I could check around for you and see who services something like that. I could try it, but Im not that good with a soldering iron. I can recap speaker crossovers, but something like that Id rather have a pro do it. Im thinking its more a power supply issue or a bad fuse somewhere. Also, check the speaker terminals to make sure there isnt any wire bridging them.
