Anyone in Farmington/Livonia/Novi area work on Honda lawn mowers?

I may have run my Honda push mower (HRX217) out of oil and locked up the motor. Hopefully it can be knocked free or maybe just needs a piston. I've called a couple of places and it sounds like they would just want to replace the motor. Can anyone take a look at it before I take more drastic steps?

Thanks.

Now that's funny. A diehard car guy runs his mower without oil. Lol.

Good luck with the repair.

I have an older one for sale, hardly used..

Pull the plug, drop some heavier oil in the cylinder(some penetrating oil as well) and let it sit to drain down in the cylinder. Flip it over and get a good grip on the "shaft"... slowly work it back and forth and see if you can get it to slowly break free. 99% of the time this will fix it, you're going to get some smoke for sure going forward but hopefully you haven't scored the cylinder walls or else you'll always have a choo choo train.

Worst case it needs a motor or needs to be replaced. Why not tear it down yourself and get an idea of how bad it is?

Because if I do it, I'll end up with a pile of parts and then end up buying a new motor anyway. I'm looking for someone who know what they're doing to give me a hand.

I know them pretty well, took all the small engine classes in school, worked for a lawn service yadda yadda yadda. I can stop by on the way home one day if you need a 2nd set of hands. Try what i said above, no disassembly other than yanking the spark plug out.

I have a Honda self propelled mower I bought from Lowes about 10 years ago. Haven't used it in at least 5 years - Since I bought a John Deere rider. The self propelling part is sort of broken - It won't disengage, meaning it is always engaged.

$75 if you are interested........

Cool. Let me know when you can stop by in the next few of days.

Thanks Gary. If Nick and I can't get it free I may take you up on it.

Do this, I've done it on my leaf blower a number of times. Still runs, and have had it probably 15 years. Once it cools off you should be good to go.

There used to be a guy south of where we used to be that had like the five car garage that always had lawn equipment for sale at the end of it, I wonder if he could help.

I have a Briggs motor I took off a nice Scott's mower my dad got from a neighbor. It's was rusted to shit, but motor ran great. I pulled it and it's been in their garage for 10 years. I think it's a 6.5 hp....let me know. It's in Rochester Hills, I will be in the Plymouth area tomorrow for work, I can throw it in the truck if you guys wanna fuck with it. Club member price, free.

I'm pretty sure that he was a member here too but I think he moved.

Yep, it wasn't a single garage but like a garage that kept having another stall added to it.

I know the house with the lawnmowers. it was an older guy who was in a wheelchair, he used to do mowers and tractors. HotWheelsRon
I stopped to talk with him a few years ago.
That time though he wasn't doing so well he said.
Since a year or so, I haven't seen his van or any mowers outside anymore.
