Long story short - took my mom out for her birthday in her car down there, she renewed her plate (they issued her a new one in the mail, new plate number) but lansing sent her new plate late, and they already invalidated her current plate. Cop pulls me over, threatens to impound the car, writes me (I was driving her car) invalid insurance and no registration tickets. He then states he's going to do me a favor and waive the tickets if I show him the proper documentation in court. We get home and her plate was in the mailbox (ugh, mom). Called the court today and they say I MUST show up to fight the ticket to represent me.

Does anyone know the law, must I show up to fight this or can my mom go for me? I'd like to avoid missing work ect since this court is about 2hours away from home and work.

Thanks for any help - feels good to rant about this lol

I am not certain but it sounds like you arent going to get out of the court date now. The good news is that it should be easy to prove your situation and have everything dropped.

On the ticket is the box marked "CI" or "MISD" or "Waive".
If CI or Misd you msut go to tcourt.
if it is marked WAIVE, you can show any cop and they can sign off on the ticket. Must do so asap.

He wrote it as Misd, lovely. My mom is getting a letter from lansing stating what happened, so that'll help.

For every honest person like you five people probably tell the same story but try an lie. but I agree its defiantly an inconvenience to have to drag it to court they will probably waive the tickets but make you pay court fees. hard to say

Take it to a formal hearing. Show the prosecutor what happened explain that your mom neglected to tell you about the plate issue. Case will get dismissed.
