DannyDodge

Wishes he had a Honda Del Sol!
it seems that i have purchased a blow up digital 6 box, anyone have one i can borrow for about 10 minutes to check and see if i am correct on my assumption?

theres a way you can test it.

CHECKING FOR SPARK

with the White Wire.
WHITE WIRE TRIGGER
Figure 12 Checking for Spark with
the Mag Pickup.
MAGNETIC PICKUP TRIGGER
If triggering the ignition with the White wire:
1. Make sure the ignition switch is in the “Off” position.
2. Remove the coil wire from the distributor cap and set the terminal
approximately 1/2" from ground.
3. Disconnect the MSD White wire from the distributor’s points or
ignition amplifier.
4. Turn the ignition to the On position. Do not crank the engine.
5. Tap the White wire to ground several times. Each time you pull
the wire from ground, a spark should jump from the coil wire to
ground. If spark is present, the ignition is working properly. If
there is no spark skip to step 6 on page 10:
If triggering with the Magnetic Pickup:

3. Disconnect the MSD magnetic pickup wires from the
distributor.
4. Turn the ignition to the On position. Do not crank the engine.
5. With a small jumper wire, short the MSD’s Green and Violet
magnetic pickup wires together several times. Each time you
break this short, a spark should jump from the coil wire to ground.
If spark is present, the ignition is working properly. If there is no
spark skip to step 6 on page 10.

6. If there is no spark:
A. Inspect all of the wiring.
B. Substitute another coil and repeat the test. If there is now spark, the coil is at fault.
C. If there is still no spark, check to make sure there are 12 volts on the small Red wire from the
MSD when the key is in the On position. If 12 volts are not present, find another switched 12
volt source and repeat the test.
D. If, after following the test procedures and inspecting all of the wiring, there is still no spark, the
MSD Ignition is in need of repair. See the Warranty and Service section for information.

it has spark, the truck runs. but its missing and popping, the light is blinking on the box which indicates less that 12 volts, but its on a brand new yellowtop, fully charged positive lead goes directly to the battery and so does the ground. should be good

Seems to be a common problem with them, I ran into the same thing last year.

That's what you get for using Optima. Pile of crap batteries.

whats so bad about em? I was thinking about getting a yellow top?

garbage. at one time i went through 3 "new" optimas. they would only hold 12.5 volt, which is close but no cigar. 12.6 is a fully charged battery. i had different problems that what the OP had. but a fully charged battery fixed the problems!

optimas were good batteries 10 years ago. quality has fallen WAY off.

that's not what I want to here I just bought one

I've always rocked a delco or die hard marine battery standard 550-700 CCA ones that are like 60 bucks. Work flawless, I know several friends who have optimums and they last one season and then junk..

I used the same battery for three years in the red stang, then put it in the blue one for a summer, then in my brothers truck where it still is today 6 years later.

Yea. My yellow top made it about 5 months. I had the 1 year warranty, so I traded it in and got a new one then sold it to Stinger. I don't know if he's using it still or what, but I hear more about how they fail out than last.

i had a redtop that died a while back... Anybody know of any other good sealed batteries out there?

well i found out why i was having problems, the plug for the magnetic pickup had a crack in it and was shorting out.
