I just bought this notch about a week ago and the paint is original and looks like crap. It's going to need some door dings taken out if it and also a small rust hole about the size of a quarter fixed on the passenger rocker. I'm looking to get it painted over the winter. Should I take it to maaco? Or what's some other cheap alternatives?

DON'T take it to Maaco. You'll be lucky if they even scuff it before they paint it. They don't mask anything off worth a shit, their paint sucks, it will start peeling FAST, there is no detrimming, no guarantees of their work....

Paint: You get what you pay for.

I was told that this Buick was painted at MAACO in taylor for $600

Yea I have seen some good paint come from there. You just can't get the ambassador special. Cars silver now but I don't want to keep it that color.

if you prep it your self you will get a OK paintjob from maaco

their only good for a "driver " style paint job

paint is one of those things you get what you pay for

I was considering them for my f 100 cuz all i want is it painted flat black but Ill do all my own prepwork

Ive had customers in with maaco jobs and from what ive seen if you dont cheap out and go with the $400 job you can get a decent job. I've considered it with the estimates ive got from local body shops on my fairly clean 89 ($3500-$5000) to start. Besides they do give you a 5 year warranty with the base/clear job.

and I give life time guarantees on our paint work. Which is better? :) Besides, your 89 --- $3500-$5000, depends on how much you want done and how much it needs as far as repairs and such.....

You're not THAT far from me if you are in lansing, Im looking for the car to be repainted white, door and jams done, there are 2 dents in the car(small one in hood and one in roof) and about 3 light rust bubbles (has not broken paint yet) so I personally feel that seemed pretty high as a starting point. Maybe its just me because I have worked as a bodyman for a living ?:gr_confus

I had a friend who de-trimmed the car, fixed a couple dents, did a LOT of the detail masking, and blocked the car nearly to death!! He went to Maaco pretty much for them just to squirt paint. It came out VERY nice! Light color sanding with 1000 grit and it buffed out BEAUTIFUL. Yes, he only paid about $700 to Maaco, but he did probably $3000 worth of work himself!!
