Anyone built a wide ratio AOD in here?

Auto shifting or manual only.
With auto shifting, because your up shifts are relevant to output speed, your wot up shifts are much higher rpm. (do the math/2.40 vs 2.80)
O ringed end plugs help greatly with auto shifting valve bodys.

Lots of performance parts available.
You will need a stronger input shaft.
Run a torqueconverter that still has a fluid coupling in 3rd & 4th.

I assuming you have a mechanical diode reverse input drum and the proper aod sun gear/shell to match. (wider 4th band and stronger 1-2 sprag)
Thinner 4th pressure plate and steels found in the aode/4r70w units will allow 4 clutches for second
Alto power pack allows 8 friction for the direct.
Just to name a few things.

Complete gear train from 4r70w,was curious about stack up in older case with required torrington bearings. Also this is an 86 4x4 case so the i'm assuming the output shaft doesn't have the rear lube update?

You have to run the aod output. 4r70w output does not have a provision for a governor. Rear case bearing also has to be from a aod (I think-cant rembemer)

Sorry to hear you went all the way to Texas for a transmission.
Ford motorsports used to sell a wide ratio kit. Im sure if you look online you will find the original instructions. I think I even still have copies.
Sounds like you already have the wide ratio parts. If not, call John over at Total Performance.

They used to package the kits for Ford Motorsports. He may still have some, however you will still want to swap out the reverse input drum from a sprag to a mechanical diode.
The rest of the bearings used will all be from the wide ratio planetary. The only one I forget is the case bearing. You will know as soon as you stack the planets.
It more common now to put the aod planets into a 4r70w case for drag racing/strength.

I didn't do more than pick up the phone and talk to the guy, and I was living in MA at the time and had no local recommendations. The TX guy came at the recommendation of some AOD guys from ClickClickRacing. I don't regret it, it showed up at my door built to the specs agreed on, within timeframe, and I tossed it in. No problems

Is john still in business at total performance?I hear he is slowly shutting operations down, not sure what is left.

I see him every now and then, and your right, he's slowly closing shop. He told me he just goes to work to assemble cars and have fun...play around.
Hes asked me to look over batches of transmission parts left over from the past in a attempt to get rid of/sell. I have no idea what left, but all the wide ratio kits sold by ford motorsports were packaged/sold by his business.
