Anybody use Orbitz? Or other travel sites?

I had no luck with priceline, each flight i tried to book it said they were unable to do so.

I found a flight on orbitz, so i went to book it and it said the same thing. Now there is a $2 pending on my account from them. I am thinking it was just a pre authorization that will be refunded before it goes through because the flight I tried to book was not available when I submitted the request.

Now I was able to get the flight from Expedia but I am still not sure because the itinerary doesn't really say much other than "Your itinerary has changed. Click here to continue."

So I click it and it shows the flight I booked without any changes. I don't get it, is it booked or not?

Also the charge on my account is 149 and the actual cost was 149.20. And the statement is saying "AMERICAN AIRLI FL LAS VEGAS OKUS" when I am flying from Detroit to New York on "air tran."

WTF???

Kind of wishing I read the fine print. I didn't think it would be so confusing to purchase an airline ticket. I've never gone through this before.

Everytime i try, i go right to the airlines site, and always find it cheaper going direct through the airlines.

I tried, even the last minute deals. They are all 3x as much.

It's too late for me to try somewhere else cause expedia has already charged me but if somebody could find me a trip from dtw to lga feb 2nd to feb 6th for less than 149 do it!!

Does it have to be LGA? If you're looking at other destinations that are within a small drive (45 minutes at most), try EWR, JFK and even HPN.

Or go with Spirit. $140 base fare roundtrip. Add in another $50 for bags.

Newark would be better cause she lives in Jersey but EWK is a lot more money.

Now expedia has changed my itinerary from "purchased" to "Not booked." WTF, I will have to call them because I've already give my credit card and paid and now they are asking for it again.

guys this is a nightmare.

Beware these sites, this is crap. Been on the phone all morning with my bank, expedia, the airline through expedia.

I've been charged for a flight that is not even available and now the run around has begun. Talking with my bank now to try and clear up the funds that they are holding so that I can purchase another flight.

ouch! Good Luck.

Well I got that out of that way and you were right. It seems the closer you get to the travel date the prices go down.

Now on spirits website the flight that was totaling $250 last night, I just booked this morning for $145 total. And I had way more options. Flight schedules change so much it's crazy.

Glad it's out of the way. Now I just need to get a small backpack to avoid paying $30 to check my carryon each way. I pack light anyway so this is a great deal for me.

Screw those websites though. The girl at expedia kept trying to get me to book another flight with them after the fiasco and I said "I need to verify with my bank that this transaction was canceled."

She FAKE called my bank. She asked which bank I had, left for like 1 minute came back and said "The agent from your bank has verified blah blah blah" then continued to try and get me to book.

I said "I can't believe you spoke with them about my account with my verification and that quickly, I will have to contact them myself." She still tried pushing booking a flight on me! I just told her "After this experience I can't say that I'd ever deal with expedia again. You charged my account for a flight that was not available and now I will have to wait until middle of the week until they are released back to me."

Lying bitch.

I called TCF and they went ahead and credited the money back to my account, but the woman also verified that they would not have spoken with anybody about my account without me on the line, so the bitch was lying.

Garbage.

I travel quite a bit and found that rarely are any of those sites less or so much more less than booking directly with the airlines that that's just how I do it. My typical process is I go to www.bing.com and click on travel at the top. Input my information for a flight and look at what it shows for a predictor of airfare prices for that flight. 90% of the time, they are right if they say prices will drop/raise. I then go to the direct airlines website and start shopping. I'll usally use a site like Orbitz just to make sure there's no big price difference and then book the flight.

I use www.sidestep.com to find which airlines are best, then book direct. I spent quite a bit using travelocity booking hotels to realize I was spending more and not getting any rewards points out of it.

so the purchase made at expedia just posted on my account. I knew that girl on the phone was full of shit and was saying anything to get me to book another flight.

Now that it's officially posted it is clear that it was never canceled. Now I will have to deal with this shit for the next couple days.

Don't use expedia.

Dude, thats an awesome way to shop for these, thanks a ton, I'll be doing this from now on! +1 internets to you!

Some airlines (Southwest) don't post fares on any website other than their own. I also typically just go to each airlines website directly. I read somewhere that buying Tuesday afternoon three months before you fly is supposed to be the lowest prices statistically.

For me, it's straight to the airline. I Haven't flown in years and this experience with expedia taught me to not use any of these sites.

And when things go wrong, you get call center service. People who really can't speak english and have no real way of accessing your account or issuing refunds. I had to spend a good portion of my morning on the phone with these people, my bank, the airline, etc... I finally got it taken care of.

Expedia was telling me that everything was fine and that I had a flight, so I asked, "Ok well then where is my ticket, show me my ticket." Which I did not have a ticket, so they were full of shit because at that price there was no ticket, the new price was $299 for that ticket, which is the same as what was on airtrans website and is also the price that airtran told me was the price for that flight so there wasn't even any savings using expedia.

It was hard to communicate with them because they really didn't understand english and they kept repeating themselves and talking over me while I was trying to speak.

I just called and raised hell, I even got loud with her which I never do. She would not let me finish a sentence and kept just reciting the itinerary (times, destination, date, etc.).

After a few hours I got an email saying they issued a refund but that will more than likely take a week or so.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't even loan my friends $150 for a week, why the hell do I want to lend it to expedia?

It was like it was impossible for them to comprehend that they charged me without giving me an actual flight. Maybe it was a glitch in the system I don't know, but when I brought up how I spoke to them saturday morning and they told me "It is canceled, it will not post" the girl today said "I am sorry that another agent gave you misinformation" and the worst part is, there is nobody you can talk to who is different from anybody else.

Lesson learned for me again. I swear if something can go wrong most of the time for me it will. I got some bad luck.

I have never had anything go wrong with those sites. It's usually a crapshoot to who is the cheapest. I've used Delta.com, Priceline, and Expedia without any problems. Choose a flight, choose a hotel, give them your credit card. Bam.
