Anybody familiar with Honda tech?

2005 Odyssey will not start. Dealer said it was the starter.

So I pulled the starter and took it to advance. It failed the test.

New starter still wont work (Had them test the new one and it worked strong).

I am thinking it has something to do with the immobilizer system but I'm not sure how to troubleshoot it.

When you turn the key to on, all the lights in the dash come on momentarily and shut off. Try to turn it over and nothing happens. I can hear the relay clicking under the hood. When I turn the key to "off" the green key light on the dash blinks several times and then stops.

Any ideas?

From the manual:
If the proper key is used the light will come on for 2 seconds and go off.

If the wrong key is used or code not recognised the light comes on for 2 seconds then will blink until the ignition is turned off.

If the ignition switch is turned off the indicator will blink for 5 seconds to indicate that the imobilizer system has been set correctly then will go off.

Large metal objects, key fobs, other imobilizer keys, and other transponders can interfer with the imobilizer signal. If an intermitent program is suspected , remove the key from the key ring.

If you both have keys swap to determine if one is bad. It could have an intermitent connection internally. As stated take it off the key ring so nothing is interfering and don't have anything hanging around the column.......

If the light goes off after 2 seconds as described, I'd look into power feed, check for power at the relay, etc.

The relay clicking doesn't mean that it's passing power through, or even have power to it to pass through

Awesome, thank you for that. I saw similar, but nothing that said if it blinks for 5 seconds that the immobilizer is set correctly. That is what's doing, so should I assume that the immobilizer is functioning properly? We tried both keys off the ring and it didn't work. I even tried holding the spare key near the column while cranking with the other key and it still didn't work. I think it might be power to the starter issue.

Is the power feed the big wire on the starter, or the smaller wire?

I know it's a long shot but I had a starter go out on a Honda that I owned when it did it snapped the ground wire leading to the starter.

Have you checked for power/ground at the starter?

Also, I have seen some slobs at Advance leave wires disconnected to purposely fail starters etc.

Sounds like a weak battery to me, Have you tried boosting it? But you should have constant power at the big cable and power feed at the small cable with the key in the crank position.
I had a Honda come in before for a no-start, no-crank and the customer had just replaced the starter, further diagnosis found the starter was built with reverse-rotation. Not all that strange though, Honda engine used to run in reverse-rotation, so maybe the rebuilder was an old-school guy...my money is on the battery or a connection problem.
If the battery is good, run a booster cable from the negative battery terminal to a good ground source on the engine just to eliminate a bad ground.
