Any way to get out of a....

usually you can buy out of it for a fee, but the fee ends up being most of the money you would spend if you kept the phone. Call the phone company and ask, usually they have a buy out price.

I got out of my Nextel one easily. I didn't even have to fake moving to another country.

Faking your own death, moving to another country it's the same thing.

If they are not holding up their part of the contract you can get out for free. My dad and his partners got Nextels for their company, but the service at their location SUCKED!!! Even after Nextel installed an amplifier antennae. So they cancelled it due to breach of contract (no service). Mind you Nextel did not take kindly to this and they have been going back and forth on it, but they are finally done with it.

Usually you have to either pay the "early cancellation penalty" or just keep the phone and make the monthly payments. Go with whichever is cheaper. One thing you can try is to downgrade your service. Lowest min/month, no extras (call waiting, texting, etc) and drop the insurance. Turn the phone off, throw it in the closet, set the payments up on an autopay and forget about it.

there's a process to this and that's how I got out. You call and bitch. File a tech ticket. You will get a response in 3 days saying they will have to review it further. Call after that, and file another ticket (they will try to avoid filing this ticket, but make them do it anyway). same thing will happen. Do it one more time. They will once again try to avoid filing the ticket. Once they give you the same response back, call and say that due to the fact that you've filed three separate tickets and still your service is bad you want to cancel your contract. They will have no choice.

Sounds like he isn't having a problem with the service, just that he cosigned for someone who isn't paying. At least if I read that correctly. That stinks and you really don't have any recourse.

If that's the case, get the phone back from the "deadbeat" and follow any of the above directions.

Good luck.
