Im looking at getting jeep as a winter car. Whats a 98 wrangler ,hard top, 4.0auto with 120k worth?
I know a guy selling one but not sure what to offer.

What goes bad with these things at 120k?
any helpful info would be appreciated.

Depending on the condition of everythng, can be worth 5-8k IMO. 4.0s run forever. Autos seem to bring more in, at that mileage....people want them to mod and offroad.

at 120k, check all the ball jts and axle joints (frt), my 4cyl needed all that stuff when I bought it at that mileage.

oh yeah, plus the brakes and a tuneup; and shocks and it ran pretty good.

something else to mention. with the short wheelbase, and open rear diff the jeep I had wasn't that great in the snow. in 2wd that is. in 4x4, which was needed in every amount of snow more than 1/2" it was great at any speed.

thanks for the help heres a bit more info

The interrior smells like the monkey cage at the zoo, the body is in good shape but the steering wheel is kinda sloppy there is a decent amount of play. all front ball joints were replaced so thats not the problem.

change the 4x4 fluids too. front and rear diffs and t-case. a lot of people overlook that stuff.

the only thing I had to replace on my 4.0 auto was exhaust.

A added an aftermarket suspension to tighten up the feel and it was cheap.

I had to replace a front ball joint also.

Mine was driven hard from 40,000 miles (when I bought it) to a little over 150,000 miles (sold it) and it handled everything I THREW AT it. Including frequent offroading with the occassional jump.

I have an 06 X. They are definitely fun to tool around town with, just not on windy days.

Check out the Jeep Forums for specifics on the vehicle you are looking at.

the resale of Jeeps are high, so expect it to be. Do this :dontknow:
