Like a lot of you mine is turned off for the same reason, they need to work with your silent function on your phone. I get that it is a great tool and the message is useful to someone that is awake in the middle of the night. However, when it bypasses being on silent it just gets disabled and then I see none. I was woken up by my phone, then my work phone, then my wifes phone all in one night. The same alert received at different times, they have not been on in 2 years because of this.

I've got mine on, I read them and take a mental note for my commute.

I think the problem is, like anything else, we start getting too many alerts and people stop taking them seriously as moneypit eluded to.

That's the exact issue.

I feel like on paper, it's a great idea. I bet in an area like NYC getting info like that to police, Cad drivers, and delivery drivers at the same time is incredibly valuable.

I always read them and I do not mind what time of day I get them. We have got them at 3-4 AM before but just turn the phone off and go back to bed. It's a small inconvenience for a great cause.

This... Also it must be an iphone issue, if my phone is on vibrate the amber alert comes over as a vibrate, not a ring.

I have a kid, and I felt a litle bad last night when I turned the notification off. They really should have an option for it to be muted if the phone is on mute. I dont get enough sleep as it is and being startled out of a dead sleep constantly isnt an option.

Between the local news and facebook news feed, believe me i'm well aware without blasting my phone at 4am. My alerts are off and will stay that way. Same with severe weather alerts. If I'm too stupid to see with my own eyes that shit's about to get real then I deserve to get blown away in a tornado.

2nd time of being woken up at 2AM out of a sound sleep that shit got turned off; I wish it respected the do not disturb settings I'd leave it on.

I always read them. The one this morning was a mile from my house and I was a couple blocks from the party store where the car was stolen when it went off. I definitely watched out for that Impala for a few minutes!

Nope. Turned them off after it woke my wife and I up one night. Besides, Facebook does a good job of spreading them quickly without being obnoxious. Like others have said, if it followed my DND schedule, I would leave it on.

I turned mine off today. After I got 2 this weekend and 2 Monday on 3 different phones at different times..... It woke me up, my wife, the dog and the baby. I keep my phone on vibrate 100% of the time. I cant really get the vibrate alerts any better for texting so I miss them often. The amber alerts on the other hand.. now way anyone is missing that mess

Almost wrecked on I-75 due to an amber alert. So that stuff is off. But I still see them on social media.
Had my phone playing pandora and was up loud. Damn thing scared the piss out of me as I was in the mix of traffic coming through cinci.

i have all of those notifications (weather, amber alert, etc) on my phone turned off. Here's my view. If i'm sitting in my living room what good does seeing an amber alert do anyone? If I'm out driving around, all those info boards on the freeways are literally for the purpose of amber alerts. That's why they put them up, they just show other shit most of the time because they are there and have nothing else to show most of the time. If I'm able to be on the look out for the Amber Alert car i will see it on the info board and don't need a phone notification.
