I turned them off after I got the iPhone notification in the middle of the night 6-8 months ago. Scared the shit out of me. I'd love it if they could implement a little more logic behind it and would definitely leave it on if so. If it worked with my "Do Not Disturb" settings (i.e. didn't go off when I'm sleeping) that would be a great start and probably enough to get me to turn it back on.

Phones are so fukin' smart these days how about sending the alert when I do something to my phone. Like, you know I'm reading my phone right now, it's a good time to push the alert. Not at 2AM in the morning, haven't touched my phone in the last 4 hours, maybe I'm sleeping?

Iv e got 4 this morning so far for the hood rat That left a kid in the car at the liquor store at 1 am, oh the car was running too

Similarly, I try not to be insensitive...but the ones in the middle of the night freak me out at first...then piss me off.

I turned them off. I've been startled out of a dead sleep in the middle of the night too many times. No thanks.

Turned off, having both my wife and my phones going off in the middle of the night is terrifying. I'm not getting up to go look for your kid, no need for me to be getting them.

if it was your kid, your nephew, your niece, your grandkid missing, you would pray for someone to pay attention to the amber alerts....you could save a kids life. But hey, i understand that its an inconvenience to you and your all important world.

I always read them and I do not mind what time of day I get them. We have got them at 3-4 AM before but just turn the phone off and go back to bed. It's a small inconvenience for a great cause.

Problem is much of the time its over a court custody battle VS a actual missing child or kidnapping....
I don't think it should be used when the mother/father/grand parent takes a child without permission or in a defiance to a court decision....... I guess you have to judge each on a case by case basis.
Why am I suspect this mornings alert (kid was kidnapped at 1am last night according to the radio this morning) is going to end up being something other than a car theft with a child inside...?

I have kids too the part that bother me about them is, they are too quick to issue them

first one this week, kid was found with mom in florida on vacation

today they issued 4 for the same child the 4th one arrived 5 minutes after the kid was found

They already found the kid, and it was just that. Left the car running to go into the liquor store with the baby inside.

The point is not for you to get out of bed and go look for the child, it is for the people who might still be awake/at work etc to keep an eye out for the vehicle in question.

No I wouldn't lol praying isn't going to help anything and if I was unfortunate enough to get stuck with one I wouldn't leave it in a running car at 1am unless i was just trying to get rid of it. Even then i'd go with the Joe Dirt/Grand Canyon method rather than a hood party store where they might just find their way home

That's exactly why it should be pushed to your phone the next time you open your phone, not anytime of the day like they currently do which causes a lot of people to ignore them. If I see them during the day and it's local I share them, but I don't need them blowing up my phone.

i disabled mine about 8 months ago i think when it woke me up at 3am for an amber alert on the east side when i live on the west side of the state. just bc i live in michigan doesnt mean i need them for the east side of the state when i dont live over there.

and yes i understand if it were my kid. but hey if it were my kid i wouldnt be leaving them in a running car at a liquor store at 1am.
