Am I lucky?

:mmm: Was my freeze plug fuck up a lucky thing? At this point I'm glad I was a dumbass and didn't put anti-freeze in my car.

Last night Saso and I tore my shortblock down. I hadn't planed on tearing the entire shortblock down, but the timing chain seemed really lose. When Saso looked at it he said let's pull the cam out because he thought something seemed wrong.

Turns out the cam gear had eaten into the thrust plate about an 1/8". This in turn let the cam walk back and forth. This lead to one roller lifter smoking a cam lobe. The lifter was just about to break. :shake:

I'm soooooooooooo lucky it didn't. That would have been 100 times worse then just a new cam and lifter!

I know you have heard of a dual pattern cam, but here is my dual pattern lobe :eek:

So I guess my fuck up was a blessing in disguise. So my question is. Am I lucky or just really stupid and God cares for stupid people :lol:

Saso= My :893yoda:

A little of both.

BTW, I'm glad that I understood what was going on while I read that. When I first joined MM, I would have been clueless.

Sounds like you had a steel cam gear with a cast thrust plate. I remember when I bought my steel timing chain set I had to order the steel thrust plate to go with it.

Good catch, things were about to get really ugly!

Ditto. Holy shit Matt you are a lucky SOB! At least you guys caught it! :rockwoot:

:thumbsup: for Saso being a perfectionist.

At least that explains why my shit was SLUG BITCH. Watch out now people :devil:

Thrust plate

Is this the thrust plate to use with a steel cam gear?

FMS-M-6269-A351 Ford Racing Thrust PlatesProtect your block.
When your cam "walks" in the block, it grinds the cam gear against the face of the block. Ford Racing thrust plates will not only protect your block, they can even free up some extra horsepower.

hey if anybody needs ones I got an extra stuck in my box and Detroit Speed fucked me and stamped a big no returns stamp on my receipt.
