Am I completely stupid?

Took my white, skinny, Canadian ass to Holbrook Auto on the weekend in an area that seemed to be an area I shouldn't have been in. Is that a bad aread?

Most places south of 8 mile are a bad area. Just keep your eyes open and leave plenty of room between you and the cars around you.
Also red lights are merely suggestions, the cops don't sit at them they stop and go. Just be prepared to do the same.

It's not quite that bad by there, atleast in day light. But for the most part the above is very true. There are much worse parts of the city.

People are getting robbed in sterling hgts...shelby...macomb...all over the place in nice areas..are you scared there too..

Perhaps, but they certainly are not getting robbed at the same frequency as in Detroit.

Your fine. The "hood" isn't as bad as it seems. I've been going it very bad areas street racing since I was 17, I'm 22 now. I was usually with someone but alone more than a few times. As long as your not looking for trouble you probably won't find it. Granted, anything can happen, maybe I've just been lucky.

I kinda feel this same way. Started at 17 and am 36 now. Never had a problem, stood next to and talked to some of the shadiest people you would want to see. Although i don't go near as muych the last 6 years or so.

And ,bsnub, no I'm not scared, im aware of mysurroundings, no matter where i am. I just know where it happens more often than not.

Yep, be aware of your surroundings. Look around often, listen, and know where an exit is. The shadiest dudes out there will be cool with you if you bullshit with them.

 I thought I was the only one that does this when I'm down there.

 Me too, just always seemed like a good idea. I usually obey the traffic lights though, but I'm always keeping an eye on my perimeter while doing so. I don't really worry when I go into the city, but it's always a good idea to stay aware and play it safe.

If it's dark and red, i pause then go! Even did this by a cop once. He seen me looking around and asked me if i was gonna run teh red light. I looked and said "yes, are you going to pull me over" He said no, he was just checking and laughed as he drove away. The one car space in front of you is manditory day or night in some areas.

Yeah, I've run a red at night in a questionable area before, but I usually try to limit going to the city at night and if I do it's either to visit friends at Wayne State or near the bigger attractions downtown where I usually feel reasonably safe.

Yeah I try to treat every place down there the same. I know that there are areas that typically have no problem, but I don't act that way so I am always alert. So like I said when you cross 8 mile...

I lived at 8 & Ryan for many years and many times it was easier to cut through the ghetto to get home than it was to sit in the traffic of I-75/94 Davison etc.

People feel safer in the suburbs, but get robbed there all the same. Being alert is something everyone should do, not just past 8 Mile. I drive through Detroit almost every day and I've never have a problem. However, it's understandable that people don't feel comfortable if they don't do it everyday. Just a thought.
