Alright Motown... Who can help?

I just spent the past hour helping my neighbor get up three steps after falling in his garage. He's in his 70s and has a broken hip and can't afford a wheelchair. He desperately needs one.

Anybody have a chair or know where there is a chair not being used?

Thanks!

PS. Anybody with some carpentry skills... He's probably going to need a very basic ramp built as well. He doesn't have much (any money) as they are living off of SSI. I can probably get the materials... although a discount/hookup would be great!

UPDATE: you guys are awesome. I spoke to Mayhem about his electric chair. He agreed to drop the price to $250 for this. So he's pitched in $50

He is OK with me posting his PayPal address... anybody who wants to donate to the chair please send payment and a note to: [email protected]

He will be watching and will let us know when he hits $250. If you donate, please post in the thread or PM me if you wish to remain anonymous.

Thanks again guys. This is making me all emotional n stuff

WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL OF $250 and he will be getting the electric wheelchair! Thanks MM!
I will keep you posted on the building of the ramp moving forward

I'll buy the material if have someone that can build it. It would not work all that great if I built it.

Let me know what I can do to help.

I should add, this was my first time in his house and he has all kinds of cool vintage Isle of Man TT posters and old school Trans Am/NASCAR/LeMans stuff as well.

So he's one of us

I'll throw $25 and PM Mayhem the link to this thread. I wish I had time to help build the ramp.

If he's a military veteran, call Home Depot. They spend a lot of time helping improve their homes lately. I have a contact person in Genesee County, she might know who is the contact in his part of Michigan. Let me know soon, I will be away from the computer for a few days starting tomorrow afternoon.

He has a wife who takes good care of him... But she's probably 65+ and about 90lbs. She can't lift him when he falls. He fell in the driveway last winter and we had to help him up then as well

I may have a basic wheelchair, I need to check with the wife first. I'm also in for helping to build.

Great looking out for someone down on their luck. I have no problem letting it go at $250 and I'll keep an eye on the paypal account and update as it goes up. I'll post a summary when we get to $250.

As I said on the phone, I'll do what I can to get the chair down to Milan. I'll be there for sure for the Friday Night Heads up race, first friday in June.

Time is few and far between for me. I can weld (mig or tig) and fabricate any steel/aluminum that might be needed and could probably get the material at no charge if anything like this would help.
