1990 F150 I6 5 speed issue, Need a little bit of advice

A buddy of mine has me fix his truck when he goes out of town and I cannot figure this out.

The truck has 70,000 miles and is pretty mint. The trans started acting up, when you go to put it into first, it wont go in, or it will be super notchy(after it has been driving down the road it always goes in after you first start it) . When you go down the road its also a little notchy once it warms up, but nothing crazy. Sooooo I swap the fluid out for GM syncromesh and it got worse, It shifts fine but once you come to a stop and neutral the trans it wont be able to find any gear, Like the clutch isn't even pushed in.

I'm in the process of swapping the fluid again and starting to look at the slave cyl. What else should I look into?

Ive never really done any work on manual transmissions.. so I'm in the dark.

I blew two of those 5 speeds up in high school. Each time it was bent/broken shift forks. Good news is the 300 will go 300k, the trans is the weak link.

Yeah the truck is in great shape, and gets drove from here to Toronto regularly so he just wants to make it good.

slave cylinder?

The only reason I said that is because it feels like its a clutch pressure issue.

I had one back in high school and the clutch fork bent, tagged the pressure plate and knocked the slave off the side. I remember thinking the fork was pretty light duty when I pulled it apart.

Slave or clutch master....Bleed the system yet? They make an adjustable rod for the cl. master if that's an issue.
