97 camaro bcm. Can it be reprogrammed?

DarkoStoj

A mysterious figure named Darko
I had a customer order a bcm for a 97 camaro, its a remote keyless entry (AU0) box 9353691

I sold it to him for cheap and shipped it out to Arizona. I told him most likely it would have to be reprogrammed.

He called me saying it can't be reprogrammed.

Can it be reprogrammed or no? Checking to see if his mechanic is full of shit

He will need the proper key pellet resistance from the BCM you sold him. Do you have the key for the car it came off of?

They can be reprogrammed but his key pellet would have to be the same as the key pellet from the BCM you sent him. There is a slim chance of that.

A new BCM will program itself but he will have to do a little extra having bought a used one. It will work though and it isn't all that difficult. The only way he will not have to reprogram is if he by chance gets a BCM with the same key resistance, or if he buys a brand new BCM which is ridiculously expensive and is probably a dealer only part.

I do have the key that matches that BCM. So to program it they would need that pellet? What is the actual program procedure? Would he have to get a new pellet put in his existing key?

thanks

The pellet or he can drop the dash panel under the steering wheel. There is a white wire that is very thin that runs from the ignition cylinder to the bcm. Once you know the resistance of the pellet that you have, he can make a resistor, snip that wire, and solder it into that wire, so the bcm will not read from the key but will always have the proper reading from the resistor he put in.

Once he knows the resistance of the key you have he can do whatever he wants. But yes, swapping the pellets would work also.

As far as reprogramming the bcm, I do not think that is possible.

To read the resistance on the key, obviously all you do is set your voltmeter to OHM's and put one lead on each side of the key pellet. Get the reading and send it to him.
