I believe the seal on the water pump is leaking from what I have been reading this is a very common thing. This is just a beater and I don't have money to throw at it. Is it possible to just change the gasket and not the pump itself? If so, how do I check to see that the pump is functioning properly?

at 2.0 labor hours to replace the pump i'd just sport the extra 30 bux to not do it again. If ya dont have it... Go for it!

the pumps on front wheel drive cars are very cheap... i just got one for my buick and they are easy to change...

blue rtv is going to be your friend so dont forget it like i did

Its only $30 at vatozone so I guess I could just swap it out. I know Reiko will hook it up, he's just so far from me i'm out in Brighton/Hartland Area.....

gotcha... its easy to do... just when i did it i didnt want to make the 45 minute trip to get rtv and gambled... then i had to make the trip anyways and redo it because it leaked... i live in between bfe and the middle of nowhere when it comes to stores and fast food

did you spring for the fel pro gasket?

just used the one that came with the pump... i put the blue rtv on both sides of the gasket because it says it works under pressure... i did it last sunday, started the car right after i put it all together and i havent had a problem since... thats not the rtv instructions, i think they say to wait a period of time but thats what i did... also its easiest to get the pully bolts loose before you take off the belt... the pully had to come off so that i could get to all of the bolts holding the pump on
