well i replaced my rotors today on my dd (94 ranger 4x4 4.0liter v6 with auto hubs) and when i finished and i drove the truck it seemed as if the tires were going to fall off driving it... although they are not wobbeling, there is a cluncking type sound coming from mostly the passenger side but could be both.... i was thinking maybe my hubs are bad, dave said u joints.... any suggestion or tips on wat to look at? wat could be the problem?

I'd start by re-checking everything you did, do you know how to take apart and re-assemble the bearings on them? sounds to be like they are way out of adjustment.

im pretty sure i did everything correctly, i followed the directions exactly, but i will prolly take it all apart again tommorrow its not that much work to double check.. since there was no problems before i did the rotors i must have missed something or done something wrong... right?

how would u put them into adjustment...?

^Yes, it's likely something you did if it was fine before. You need to put it up and grab the wheel top and bottom to feel for looseness, if it's tight or has minimal play, it could just be an unseated auto hub, doesn the 4wd work? if the hub isn't on right it could make noise, try putting it in 4wd and see if it stops. If it's loose you will need to tighten the bearings.

the hub is seated and my 4wd has never worked since i had the truck... i was told the gears in the front diff are stripped and need replaced but i will believe it when i see it, and thats another project for another day...

i will check for looseness tommorrow, i gave up today... i found when im frustrated i just need to take a break or call it a day, cause i will start breaking shit if i keep working...lol.

any other ideas?

dont the rotors just slide off the front of the truck? If its 4wd im pretty sure they do. Therefore there should of been no reason the even touch the hub. Does it shake when you hit the brakes or all the time. Very possible to get warped rotors brand new off the shelf. Alot of chinese rotors are garbage. As far as the clicking you might have a brake pad moving around, or loose hardware

X2 to both on these. If it didnt do that before, its something you did. My guess would be in the caliper, wheels arent tightened, loose caliper bracket, I'd have to drive it/see it to know for sure.

Brakes are a grey area for most people. EVERYONE thinks they can do them they are so easy, etc. Well, in theory, thats sort of true. The concept itself is simple, and there are quite a few less parts as oposed to a drum style braking system. But, There are some many areas that need to be addressed that many people over look, or dont even realize. And seeing how your brakes are relatively important (sarcasm) You should always leave them up to a trained professional, or at least someone who has been State certified, etc.

Best of luck, hope you get it all situated.

thanks for the ideas guys i think im gonna drive it without hubs on first then go from there... and the rotors dont slide off, there is a few pieces to take off inorder to get em off...

okay first thing i did today was test drive her without any hubs. and the noises went away... so i bought some manual hubs and conversion kits to put on her tommorrow... after a long day of tracking down parts and spending all my capri parts money im exhausted.....any other suggestions. maybe im overlooking somethin?

^That post is confusing, I though the noises were gone with the hubs off, then you ask for more ideas? isn't it fixed with the manual hubs? personally I would have got some good used auto hubs, that's probably why the 4wd didn't work, the hubs are prone to failure, I've never seen diff gears broken on a front diff with auto hubs-the gears are much stronger than the hubs.

yea the noise was gone once i took the automatic hubs off. i have yet to install the manuals so im hoping the noise doesnt come back... and the reason i didnt get automatic hubs casue they break too easily and hardly anyone sells em... i couldnt find any new ones. and none of the local junkyards had any. so she will be running fine again tommorrow. and hopefully it does fix the 4wd... that would be great... thx for the ideas guys

okay tore her down today... only had one wheel bearing that was bad it was on the side my dad did LOL... and the side i did was done correctly and torqued to the right specs too... glad i followed the book directions.. got the manual hubs and conversion kit on no problem and the noise is gone and i got 4 wheel drive again... THANKS for the help guys.
