my dad has a 94 f-150 4x4 and the trans is messing up some times...he will be driving down the road normally and its like the trans slips out of gear and then slams back into gear...meanwhile the rpm's shoot up when it slips. but the weird thing is that is only does it sometimes...one day it will shift perfectly fine and not screw up once and other days it does it like 6 or 7 times so i dont think its the clutches or bands. im thinking maybe a shift solinoid???

is it a 4R100 or 4R70W trans? the 4r100 (E4OD), has a solenoid pack with all the solenoids in it. all 4.9's and most 5.8's use the 4r100. the 4r70w (AODE) uses an epc (electronic pressure control solenoid),plus shift solenoids, and a few more. the 5.0 uses the 4r70w generally. if you're not sure which trans, pm me your vin and i'll decode it at work tomorrow. hope this helps. jim.

Go buy a MLPS sensor for the side of the trans

This happens all the time. You'll be in O/D going down the road and the trans will neutral out, then slam right back into O/D. You can pick up the updated sensor {comes with a wiring hardshell connector that you have to swap} for about $45-$60 bucks. With either trans E40D or Aod-E/4R70w the sensor will need to be replaced, especially if it has a ton of miles on it.

Wow, that sounds exactly like what my F250 is doing. Only does it once in a while, and always in overdrive.
