ok well I have a 89 mustang gt and it grinds like hell when trying to start it.the starter is new so I assume the flywheel is messed up.and yes the starter is aligned so my question is can anything else cause this.

Did it just start grinding?the starter tight? I would say the teeth of the flywheel are messed up. Pull the starter and look at the teeth see if they are ok...if they look good then i would check the starter...length of the throw on the starter gear could be wrong.

well I bought it knowing that it might have a bad starter.so I check and the starter didn't have a top bolt and the starters teeth was messed up so I replaced it and at first it had a little grind then it got worse.so I figure its the flywheel

so really isn't their only 2 things that can be wrong with it? flywheel and starter?

It's probably the starter teeth. Mine came loose and someone tried to start it a bunch when I wasn't around. The teeth on the starter were/are softer then my flexplate, and rolled them all over. Flexplate was perfect.
