86 mustang trans question

girl at work asked me today to help find her a trans for her sons mustang, it is the 2.6 or whatever 4 or 6 cylinder they put in those. it is an auto car. he eventually plans on a 5.0 swap. would the trans be the same for the two or would one be stronger than the other would they bolt up. thank you in advance, Allen

a 1986 mustang can come with a 4, 6 or 8 cly, and all would have a different transmissions, along with a different computer software if its a automatic.
The v-8 version would be stronger, and last question, no they will not bolt up.
if hes going to do a swap, take everything out of a v-8 car, including the wire harness and computer.

the 4 cyl is a 2.3 and the V6 is a 3.8

the 3.8 could only be had in the Mustang with an auto
