8 inch rear choices

Ok, I have a 8 inch in my Mustang II, the traction-loc isnt holding up anymore, needs new clutches. One option I have is to put a Mark Williams 35 spline spool in it 300$ + 600$ axles, put a mini-spool in it with the 28 spline axles, or I could go with the richmond powertrax posi, about 450$ with 28 spline axles. Any one have any input on the richmond gear stuff? I think the Mark Williams set-up is probably bullet-proof, but for that much I could set up a 9 inch, and I've heard mini spools don't last long on the street.

forgot who makes them, but, i just seen a set of axles that are splined like 10" in from the end of the axle so you can just cut them down. how much do you need to narrow it?

I think a fox rear would have to be cut down 3" to fit my car. There was a guy at autorama with a mustang II with a 03 cobra engine/trans and a solid 8.8 out back, and I'm pretty sure he said it was narrowed 3 inches. Im kinda torn on spending that much without at least mini tubbing the car since its a tight squeeze to get 235 MT drag radials on there as it is, I would hate to buy the rear, a locker, new axles, and have to set it back up for leafs with out making room for more tire while im at it.

Save your money and replace the entire assembly. 9" or 8.8. Depending on HP and vehicle usage, either a true trac or a spool.
Don't waste any monies on the 8". Its only good for low hp. Street rod guys love the 8". Post it up on craigslist to help offset the cost.
