5pt harness guys

I'm pretty sure you can get them re-certified for a relatively small charge. I know RJS used to do this, would imagine they and the other manufacturers still do.

That really depends on which sanctioning body you race with. Most tracks allow 4 or 5 years, except for SCCA...The funny thing is you can keep the original 40 year old Mustang belts in the car and use them, but if you have a 4 year old racing belt, you can't race....

That is true. Its ironic you can run 30 year old belts without anyone saying anything but when your racing belts turn a few years old its the end of the world LOL. I have heard of the racing belts deteriorating and becoming weak over time though. I am unsure of how true that is or how long it really takes for them to become unsafe but I assume if they sit in direct sunlight often that might make them more brittle. Although, you would think all belts would get weaker in that situation. It seems more of a money making issue to me but who knows...

Yeah I meant the one that matters... :) 1 new G-Force harness for me this spring...weeeee:btchfight

I was unaware 5 pts. were not street legal????!!!!!
What can an officer say about them? Especially if they are not expired?
I've been pulled over a number of times and nothing was ever mentioned about them. I say screw it and use them. I prefer them over factory belts anyway...

you can get ticketed, as they are not DOT certified, however, when was the last time someone is a passenger car(NON-commercial) got cited for a DOT violation?

regular seat belts move *on a spring reel or whatever, you know* racing belts dont, thus they stretch and become weak, or at least thats the the NHRA says

RJS recertified my belts, but that was because they stayed in the box and in the plastic (uninstalled). Someone may have a different experience, but they didn't give me the impression they would recertify a used set of belts.

As for being on the street, I haven't heard of anyone getting a ticket for having racing belts.

they recert belts, they put them in a thing that checks how much they've stretch

I was not aware harnesses were illegal. I do know that if you have harnesses you must wear all points.

So if you have 5 points and only wear the lapbelt, that is illegal.

so the consensus is that i shouldnt worry about it and just run the 5 pts all the time then?

A guy I work with has had 5pts in his Camaro since he built it 5-6 years ago. He gets pulled over all the time (his own damn fault) and he's never mentioned to me about them saying a word.

alright those are the stories i want to hear about... as long as they don;t seem to say anything im not going to worry about it. thanks guys

i have never had a police offer say a thing to me. And several have seen the set up (only one cause I was pulled over)
