I'm pretty sure you can get them re-certified for a relatively small charge. I know RJS used to do this, would imagine they and the other manufacturers still do.
That really depends on which sanctioning body you race with. Most tracks allow 4 or 5 years, except for SCCA...The funny thing is you can keep the original 40 year old Mustang belts in the car and use them, but if you have a 4 year old racing belt, you can't race....

I was unaware 5 pts. were not street legal????!!!!!
What can an officer say about them? Especially if they are not expired?
I've been pulled over a number of times and nothing was ever mentioned about them. I say screw it and use them. I prefer them over factory belts anyway...
That is true. Its ironic you can run 30 year old belts without anyone saying anything but when your racing belts turn a few years old its the end of the world LOL. I have heard of the racing belts deteriorating and becoming weak over time though. I am unsure of how true that is or how long it really takes for them to become unsafe but I assume if they sit in direct sunlight often that might make them more brittle. Although, you would think all belts would get weaker in that situation. It seems more of a money making issue to me but who knows...
RJS recertified my belts, but that was because they stayed in the box and in the plastic (uninstalled). Someone may have a different experience, but they didn't give me the impression they would recertify a used set of belts.
As for being on the street, I haven't heard of anyone getting a ticket for having racing belts.
so the consensus is that i shouldnt worry about it and just run the 5 pts all the time then?
I am sending mine back for reweb probably this week. cost is $85
