4L60e to 4L80e swap info? (truck)

Ive got a 1998 GMC Z71 extended cab for a daily driver and im looking for information on a 4L60e > 4L80e swap. I cant seem to find any solid info anywhere. Just want to know what parts are needed, what year range of transmissions will work, what electronic work needs to be done, or hell, if its even possible. Ive had limited luck finding information on 2WD setups, but not 4WD.

any help would be appreciated. My stock 60e has been sketchy from day one and lately its starting to scare me. I want to have a plan ready if/when it grenades on me. If its a straight forward swap I figure its worth a little bit of extra work to have a more solid transmission, if not ill build the 60e up.

you will need a 1998-2000 transmission. You will need driveshafts, cross memeber, transfer case, stub wiring harness and alll linkage components. Its best to get the front and rear diff to.

After that you will need to add some pins to the ECU change the harness connectors for the transmission and reflash the pcm with code for a 2500 5.7 3/4 truck to make the transmission operational. Thats the short list.

that sounds like more than i want to mess with while my truck is still a daily driver, someday though. thanks for the help, looks like ill just be doing a good 60e build.

sell it and buy a 2500. Thats what I tell most guys to do. Its cheaper and easier.

haha.

someday when its retired from DD duty and i have money to spend Im just going to build a 3/4 ton chasis with a solid front axle and swap the body over :)

for now im happy with what it is, just didnt want to overlook what might have been a potentially worthwhile upgrade.
