4L60E Rebuild - recommendations?

Looks like the trans that came with my LS1 for my Firebird needs a rebuild. At a minimum it needs the pump replaced as one of the drive dogs broke off. Since the sponsor list hasn't been updated in 5 years or so and I have been out of the car game for a good 10 years or so, anybody have any shop recommendations? Might as well get it rebuilt while it is out of the car anyway.

+1. Should be your first call.

Rich did mine quickly and it's held more power than it should. He did a sonnax performance kit which included a large list of upgrades. Nothing crazy really. No billet parts. He can probably set you up with a converter if your not dead set on a specific brand.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll give Rich a call.

Hey Denny. I already have a new converter. Went with a PTC 3000 stall 10" converter. Little higher stall than I wanted but since I am cam only I am assuming it will stall a bit lower. I guess we'll see! What rear do you have in your car? I am debating if the stock 26 spline axle will hold up and I can just get away with a gear swap (currently 2.73 gear). I also have a line on a 3.27 geared 9 bolt but it seems like parts are not readily available for this rear. I know the 4th gen 28 spline rears will fit but I want to run the stock wheels so it might look odd since it is wider and i have not been able to track down a 90-92 28 spline 10 bolt yet. My budget was already blown so this trans rebuild is going to add to that so not looking to do an 8.8, 12 bolt or 9 inch.

Take your axle to Rich also. I did a used 3.73 12 bolt from a Motown member. Eaton posi. Paid like $1400?. :)

yes hands down! go to him !

What cam did you install? 3000 won’t be bad. A lot of people do 3600 or so cam only

Texas Speed 228R. Used to be a decent sized cam but by current standards I think it only qualifies as a moderate cam. The car is only going to go do the drag strip occasionally (once or twice a year) for fun. I mostly want to just enjoy driving it on the street so that is why I was looking at something with a little lower stall.

If I could find a deal like that I would have to stretch my budget a bit more! Last time I got a deal like that was on the used PI Vigilante torque converter I bought for 94 vert way back in the day. Heck just doing a gear swap with a Trutrac and labor would probably be close to a grand.

BTW - Rich said he's trying to stick to bench jobs at the moment so I didn't discuss a gear swap with him.
