What are you using for a choke?

im not using one it is a holley 750 double pumper with the choke took out..

Well without a choke you are never going to be able to just start the car and have it idle at 1000rpm's and then once it's warmed up idle at 1,000rpm's too. That's the reason people use chokes.

What you want to do it get the motor warm and maybe even drive it around the block a few times. When you get back from you trip around the block set the idle at the point where you want it to idle at. To do this you are going to need to understand and be able to play with your idle speed adjuster as well as your idle mixture screws. I have no idea what the spec's on your cam are so I can't suggest a idle speed but if it's relitively mild set the idle at 900-1000rpm's. If it's a big nasty race cam you may need to set it somewhere between 1200-1300rpm's. Once you have done this you car will idle during driving conditions.

To start the car and get it warmed up you are going to have to keep the motor running with the throttle. Without a choke there is no other way to do it.

well when i set the idle the car is at 180 and it is 1100 but only when i run the car hard like wide open 1st,2nd,3rd gear when i let off and stop it wil idel really high around 1500 or higher and it is a rac e style carb so i dont think it would have a choke

So does it have a choke or not? :dontknow:

I had the same issue, and when I played with the carb after the car was actually warm, I was able to eliminate my idle problems.
Now top end is another story with my POS. :shake:

well i have check every thing and ive retighted every bolt down and re checked every thing 20 times it just never ran like this till i put the new cam and heads on..
