Why do I think this wasn't a flood car, rather someone that didn't want to pay the bill for a Maserati trams repair, claimed flood damage to get insurance money and out of the car?

Things like this do happen sometimes!

Can you hear the F1 (Duoselect) Transaxle pump prime when you open the door? When you first open the driver's door (before you enter the car car) you should hear a very high pitched whining noise coming from the rear of the car. That is the F1 pump getting primed. It only lasts about 5 seconds or so and it'll go away.

If you do not hear this, it could be the relay for the pump, clutch position sensor or the pump itself. I found some info about this here: http://www.maseratilife.com/forums/quattroporte/16123-transmission-failure.html

2007 has a different trans, whoever buys this should see if DetroitGearbox can fix it

Dam flood title makes or breaks the deal.

Either way, awesome deal and would be baller once back on the road.

The F1 pump does prime.

You have any other idea what the problem might be?

Darko:

I am not a Maserati expert, but I am intrigued by these cars. I did some research on their transmission issues and below is what I found:
  • In 2007, bot the F1 (DuoSelect) and ZF 6-speed auto (Automatica) were available. Your car is a DuoSelect with the F1 transaxle.
  • These transmissions are notoriously unreliable. 2005-06 vehicles are worse then 2007. However, clutch wear is driver dependent. People who drive them like an automatic have low clutch life, whereas those who treat them as a manual seem to get decent life.
  • Their main failure mode is the F1 pump and/or the pump relay. As you stated, you can hear yours prime so both appears to be working
  • They have a clutch position sensor which can fail
  • Being an automated manual, the clutch does wear and will need replaced. With 75k miles on it, yours may have a worn clutch. a new OEM clutch kit is upwards of $2300. However, used clutches are available on eBay for $650.
If I needed a large sedan, I would consider repairing this car and driving it. They are beautiful cars!
