2006 cadillac DTS HID problems

The factory HID lights will turn off at random times and then turn back on. Switching the headlight control to the off position then to the on position will reignite them. This usually happens to one light or the other, but not both at the same time. My research has led me to beleive that it is most likely failing ballasts. Apparently if I was experiencing bulb flicker and bulb discoloration that would indicate a bulb on its way out. Has anyone seen or experienced this problem.? What was your solution? Im trying to stay away from used OEM units as they are costly and prone to this error as well. Thanks guys!

Had this issue with my cts-v, was a bad ballast. Bought new factory headlights but you can replace the ballast

Thanks for the reply. I did notice some flickering tonight followed by the light going out. Would you advise purchasing new bulbs first before I try the ballasts?

Just buy the whole assembly with the bulbs and ballasts and housings if you can afford to.. that way there's no guess work and you get shiny new headlights that'll work like they should.
