Have a 2005 Freestyle w/ 60k+ on it. Somtimes after it's been sitiing (especially overnight) it has trouble starting. After you try starting it for a while it will start and runs great. Also when it does start seems to stumble at first, then smotths out after a few seconds. No check engine lights or anything and it doesn't always do this. Pretty stumped right now. I am going to check fuel pressure this weekend to see whre it's at. Anyone know the spec for fuel pressure for this car?

91Truck-any of your techs run into this with any customer cars?

Any help will be appreciated.

Pull a few spark plugs out and make sure the platinum discs didn't fall off of the ground strap of the spark plug. Also check the gaps. If they are over 70 thou it can make it difficult to fire in cold wether.

Sunscribed, My girl has the same year, same car, similar mileage, and the same problem. It just started this year and doesnt happen all the time. If I get a chance I will pull some plugs and let you know what I find.

Cool thanks. The wife loves the car, just hated to have to fight w/ it to start sometimes. I may pick up some plugs for it and see.

Also if you see white tracks on the coil boots. REplace the boots. It is a sign of moisture build up and can again. Cause hard starts.

its an 05 and its super cold now. battery is 5 years old!

sounds like a bad battery as stupid as it sounds

Hatch and Sean, here is what I have found:

TSB ref number 05-26-17

Some 2005-2006 Five Hundred and freestyle vehicles built before 12/14/2005 may exhibit diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2107 and/orP2110. The vehicle may also exhibit extended crank times in cold ambient temperatures.

: reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using WDS release B40.7 and higher or B41.1 and higher. The new calibrationis not includedc in the B41 CD. Calibration files may also be obtained at www.motorcraft.com

I am working on getting mine recalibrated next week. I will let you know how it turns out.

Hmmm. Thats a new one. I usually find they have worn out plugs at 50-60K and the boots get moisture in them. Oddly though. This is good information if the vehicle is in a good state of tune and still hard starts.

BTW if the vehicle is less then 8yrs old and has less then 80K on it. You might be getting it reflashed free of charge.

I gave them my vin number and I am under 80k and he said it would be 96.00 bucks to get it done. Im talking to another certain ford dealer employee about it also. I will find out more when I get back in town next week.

Yeah let me know what you find out.

Well the car is at varsity Ford today having the pcm recalibrated and the door latch recall fixed. I will keep you updated. Varsity Ford did get ford to pickup the cost of the recalibration also because I am just under 80k.

emissions warranty is supposed to be 8 years 80k by federal law IIRC. I have fought this issues with dealers over catalyst replacement before on dodge vehicles. This would technically be a emissions related issue. That should be free.

Varsity ford was great about getting it taken care of. I cant say as much for the dealer down the street for me. They wanted to charge me 96 bucks and said it wouldnt be covered -1 for them.

I'm going to check with the dealer down the street and see.

Changed the plugs and have not had a hard start problem. Now I have codes p061b & p2106. Wife says that the car stutters/shakes at low speed (30 and below). Car went into "limp mode". I looked up the codes and got this:

p061b-Internal control module torque calculation performance error

p2106-throttle actuator control system forced limited power.

This damn car is killing me.

Any large vaccum leaks ? Is it just since the weather got bad ? Snowy slick roads ?

Hey Matt if you haven't fixed it yet give me a call. I work with a couple of former Ford engineers that worked on this vehicle.
