2004 GMC Canyon transmission tunnel?

My parent's bought me a set of Weathertech floor mats for my 2004 GMC Canyon. The passenger side floor mat seems to fit fine. The driver side has about a one inch gap between the floor mat and the transmission tunnel. The gap area is between the accelerator peddle and transmission tunnel. My right foot often times will rub against the floor mat where it comes up the transmission tunnel. I can post pictures if that will help. After a few emails back and forth with Weathertech they are now telling me that they do not make floor mats for my truck because I have a regular cab GMC. Are the floor pans different between the Chevrolet and GMC? The floors being different makes no sense to me, as the trucks share some many parts. Why go through the hassle of different floor pans?

Maybe a difference in 2wd to 4wd? Wider tunnel for the transfer case/front driveshaft?

I am not too familiar with that truck floor layout. If you cant get anything that will work, is there a way to modify the mat that you have in it now? Maybe cut it at the top of the tunnel on the driver side to make it lay flat on the tunnel and floor that way it still has the "tray" to catch water
