woke up this morning to hear a nice knock im my motor , started to go away once it warmed up but its still there ,., trucks got 190xxx miles but is real clean and taken care of

basicly I just got a few questions on a ls swap

want to stay as cheap as possible lol , so I was thinking 4.8 or 5.3 , not looking to mod or anything just wanting a good running truck with decent power and better Mpg than what I have already

can I use my same trans or do I need a trans to ? ,., my trucks 4x4

what to look out for doing the swap ?

any shops out there that would take on this job or an I better off doing it myself ?

I actually had an ls swapped blazer before. The most expensive or time consuming part will be the wiring harness. You can buy them plug and play for blazers with a 4l60e or I've seen a few write ups on how to modify the 5.3 harness for your needs if you good with wiring. That will save you quite a bit of money. Check on the s10/blazer forums they have ls swap sections that answers every question you'll ever have about the swap.

You can keep the trans, just use the flex plate spacer. Usually on the 4wd's S10s the most complicated task is getting an oil pan to fit

would it be cheaper and easier to just do a vortec 5.7 swap or even a carbureted 350 ? im sure even with those 2 motors my gas mileage will be about the same as the 4.3 that's in it now

Carbureted is probably the fastest, but dropping in a Vortec 5.7 is relatively simple from a wiring standpoint. If you compare the harnesses, you'll find that the v6 and a v8 harness are really close. You may have to add a few more injector wires, but IIRC the connector to the CPI intake is the same, and the pcm in your truck can be flashed with a V8 cal. I think the accessories are in the same place as well.

think im going to go carb'd 350 guys , from what im reading it should be cake and the cheapest way to go and my Mpg should be about the same depending on how heavy my foot is with a stock-stockish motor

keep the stock computer in place for gauges and to keep the trans shifting ?
all my accessories should bolt up to a sbc so that cuts away at some of the cost right there
stock radiator should be sufficient also

ive read that people with 4x4 and the oil pan can get away with spacing out the front diff away from the pan up to about 1/4 inch or so

everything seem about right ?

anything im missing and to look out for ?

all help is appreciated guys , thanks

Going carbed and running the pcm for gauges won't work, nor will the trans shift right. I really think minor mids to the harness and a Vortec v8-flashed pcm is the simpler route. Keeps all the electronic functions working. Will drive like factory aside from the power.

i like this idea , just need to start tracking down parts and wait for my motor to finish dying
