I'm wanting to put up a hoist in my barn. There is a place in Pontiac that sells one for 1600-1700 that will like 9k pounds. Anybody here have experience with one of these cheaper hoists?

Aresco off of Perry? Very nice people. Highly recommend them

get the American one, not the Chinese. Big difference in quality. My boss got one and i tagged along.

edit: just looked at the website, seems things have changed since 5 years ago. They used to have "Chinese" or "American" in the descrition, not sure about now.

You must be referring to Aresco. Pretty sure they sell a USA made lift too which is better quality than the cheapest version from over seas.

If you don't get an Aresco lift, get a hold of Dow's Equipment when you are ready to buy, they were great to work with and gave me a good price.

I just checked too. Looks like they put an American flag icon in front of some of the lifts to designate the difference.

I had a 9000 lb Aresco lift put in two summers ago - I think it ended up being $2300 or so with delivery and installation. Haven't had a problem other than the initial install. The installer squared it to the saw cut in my concrete which wasn't perfectly square to the walls so it is a little crooked (just a few degrees off). Other than that it is fine. He also forgot to tighten up one of the hoses and soaked my fresh concrete with oil. I would still recommend them, just keep a close eye while they install.

I plan on putting it up myself. Yes Aresco is where I've been looking. My neighbor got a launch tech one for around 2500 but I'm not overly impressed with it. That's why i was wondering if the cheap ones they have are any good. Other the the ALI certification are they not worth it?

Call Dows and talk to Don. Like Ken said, he's a car guy and very good friend of ours. He's set me and Ken up before and several of my other friends and business associates. It can't hurt to call him and ask some questions. Tell him Mopar Scott and Ken told you to call him. Seriously. Although he may give you some crap for indirectly knowing us lol.

The off shore ones are all garbage.
If your seeking cheap, just search for used ones. I come across hoists for 500 bucks (or less) all the time.
If you seek quality, buy Rotary.

Another vote for Dow's Equipment. I also know Don personally and have used his company as our hoist supplier / service provider for many years at my work (OEM manufacturing facility). He has helped us many times with hoist selection, one-off specialty hoist design, inspections and repairs. I also purchased a hoist from him for my garage at home and have been very happy with it. Hoists are like most other shop tools and equipment - you get what you pay for....

I did a LOT of shopping/research before I purchased hoists for my shop. I looked at every brand and searched across state lines.
I did not need help assembling or installing them since I've done this task several times over the years.
Vendor delivered to my door step. I would not hesitate to buy a used one. Last one I bought had very little use...I paid 400 Bucks. Lots of deals out there... and paint is cheap.

I had an old rotary from a stealership that I paid $500 for, but this was before I had a place to put it. So it sat then I sold it. Would love to find another deal like that. I've been craigslist surfing and havnt come up with much. Maybe i will just wait until something pops up.

Everything used im finding lately is some no name brand and they are asking atleast $1500 for them. I can get a brand new China one for that and not deal with frayed cables and rusty cylinders..
