2.5 is a good size pipe to use for trucks. X-pipes are useless on a truck unless you can keep the length of the pipe coming from each header the same length on each side. Since you usually have the restriction of the gas tank and the transfer case on one side of the truck the driver side exhaust pipe would need to cross over the the passanger side to get to the back of the truck. Your best bet is to get two center in center out mufflers and put them side by side vertically. Stay away from glass packs. Flowmasters tend to drone at highway speeds. Try not to dump the exhause afer the muffler or no mater what you will get exhause drone. It might sound good for a week but after that you will be so sick of it. Magnaflow or a Gibson muffler is a good choice. I also like the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers for a budget muffler. Try to get the tailpipe as close to the back of the truck as possible to cut down on exhaust noise in the truck. One thing to remember is that with headers and no cats it's going to get a lot louder and you will smell a lot more raw gas. Hope that helps.
I'm getting ready to do headers with no cats and a Magnaflow muffler with 2-2 1/2" inlets and 2-2 1/2" outtles with a full dual tailpipe that will exit in the stock location behind the rear tire on my 96 F150. should sound preaty healthy.
