1985.5 svo help

Well picking up a svo today and need some pointers as too look at. It will start and idle but as soon as you give it gas to go it just fall's on its face and doesnt want to go anywhere. So any advice to what to look into would be greatly appreciated. Also will be able to give more insite to what else its doing when I get it here in my garage. Thanks
 
check the intake tube after the vane air meter and make sure its clamped good check the intercooler hose connections too
 
Might be a dumb question but what's the vein air meter sorry I'm new to this hole 4cyl turbo thing lol

it should be just after the air filter. its an aluminum housing that has a door inside that opens with airflow to control how much fuel the engine gets. if there is an air leak after the vane air meter the car wont get enough fuel
 
Ok thanks I will check into that. Who knows what it could be this car has been sitting for awhile only has like 54,000 original miles on it and was a 1 owner car. Hope I can get it running and throw a new paint job on it and have a nice cruiser.
 
Hope not I know my brother in law drove it last summer I thinkand it was running great thenjust started to fall on its face for whatever reason and he never messed with it so now I get it lol.
 
EGR Valve ?...Timing off ?...Cat plugged ?... This Is where I would start. By the way If you are Intersted I have new Ford Motorsport turbo cam, roller followers, and degreable cam (top) gear.
 
Ok have car home in garage droped the gas tank and drained it. Installed new fuel filter and put new premium gas in it. Car will not fire cranks over think its a fuel issue still because it will run while squirting alittle starting fluid and runs like a champ but then will die. What else to look into fuel pump is kicking hear it when I turn the key on. Still in garage trying to hear this pig run without starting fluid

Check for fuel pressuer...you can try fuel Injector cleaner (3 or 4 bottles)
 
Well car is all fixed and seems to run good. Took it for a little spin around the block builds boost fine and moves pretty good shocked me lol. So on to getting it all sanded down body work done and a nice fresh coat of black paint on it.

What was the problam with the car ?
 
Mainly I think fuel pump. But drained all the gas put new fuel filter and fuel pump on and problem is fixed.

As long as it has been sitting you might want to consider flushing the fuel system and having the injectors cleaned and flowed to make sure all is well.
 
What do these even go for if I decide to sell it cause I thinkI really want v8 power this car is defently differnt and people look but I want fast, this car is fun though. I know I got a good fair price for it from my brother in law. It was funny the guy at auto zone told me to get out of his store when I told him it was a true svo and what I paid for it with alll the original things and miles.

The price has gone up on them the last few years. You used to be able to get a really clean one for $5-$6000 now people want 2-3x that amount for clean originals.
