My buddy wants to date this 17 year old and he's 21? We googled consent laws and it SEEMS as if it's o.k. in Michigan? Any info would be great. He actually really likes her and this is why he's looking into it. He wanted to call the police station and ask them! LMAO!
 
They were talking about this on the radio with regard to one of the teacher - student things where the kid was 17, so it wasn't illegal in that aspect so they had to go after the teacher on some other grounds. Being in a position of authority over the kid or something like that.

Well, if she was 16 or under...and maybe not go to that extent, but that's dangerous territory. If the parents get tired of it or if the guy does something that pisses them off they can claim statutory rape, and that will F a guy's life up forever.

An old co-worker of mine had sex with another co-worker who was 16. Her parents found out, and they were ready to take him to court for statutory rape...I'm not sure why they decided against it in the end...the daughter probably convinced them that she wanted to or something. Still, though, if they would have taken him to court he probably still would have gotten convicted. He was 20 at the time, I believe...

:lick: Michigan, as well as other states will find other vague laws if one doesn't suit their purpose. The favorite in Michigan seems to be contributing to the delinquency of a minor. I was in the same shoes at that age, but I had also dated her 3 years by then (high school sweetheart as it were). While never caught, I don't know what her parents would have done had they caught us :lick: .
 
I think it's also different if you were dating while both under 18, then one turned 18 and the other was still a minor (like if you were 17 dating a 15 year old...then you turned 18 and she turned 16) than if you start dating someone under 18 while being over 18 yourself
 
how i understand it works is that 2 consenting 16 year old can have sex but a 16 and 17 year old cannot. Also that parents cannot press charges against the 17 or older person with out the 16 year olds consent. who knows I may be wrong.
