02 trans am trans question

Ok I bought my t/a over the summer and their is a switch by my traction control button that I have no clue about. The dealer I bought the car from didn't know what it was for either. My question is could it be a manual lockup switch? My car is an a4 and I suspect it has a different stall. How can I tell if it is a lockup switch? what does locking up actually do? When should it be locked/unlocked? I really don't know very much on this topic thanks in advance
 
Take a picture of it....I doubt its a lock up switch, but it could be a aftermarket adjustable pressure riser like 1badair mentioned. Several different company's make them.
